SAME SEX MARRIAGE By: Pablo Basa Photo from: http://knowyourmeme.com Brief background Same-sex marriage (also known as gay marriage or gender-neutral marriage) is a marriage between two persons with the same sex or gender. Legal recognition of same-sex marriage or the possibility to perform a same-sex marriage happened when the US Supreme court issued an order with one paragraph as; "No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. Informing a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live

Distinction of Classical and Modern Liberalism and its Application to the Philippine Government. by: Pablo Basa The distinctions between classical and modern liberalism is the government’s action towards the liberty and freedom.  As of the liberalism is concern, they are both promoting peace and equality among states. It relies on the notion that human beings are rational individuals who are capable of living freely by reason. With its key ideas of reasoning, equality, consent and constitutionalism (Heywood A, (2013). In Politics 4 th Ed. Palgrave McMillan). The distinction of classical liberalism is that human beings are seen as egoistical, self-seeking and largely self-reliant creatures. Human beings are taken to be the proprietors of their own persons and capacities, owning nothing to society or to other individual. (Heywood A, (2013). In Politics 4 th Ed. Palgrave McMillan). Hence, the core idea of classical liberalism is that there should have limited gov

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Fighting for peace and freedom or for vested interest? By: Pablo Basa Manila, Philippines – After the tragic death of the forty four (44) commandos of Philippine National Police – Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) in their engagement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) at Mamasapano, Maguindanao. It left us a question as to why it happened or what really happened? Why does the MILF overkilled our agents of peace in midst of peace talks of our government to them? What are the ideologies and way of thinking of these rebels to revolt to our government? And why does they seek freedom, autonomy in our country when in fact, it is a democratic one? History of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is a Philippines-based rebel group made up of local Moro Muslims. Moro Muslims have been fighting with the government since the 1960s. The MILF is a breakaway group from the Moro National Liberation Front (M

“KABATAAN ANG PAG-ASA NG BAYAN” – Dr. Jose Rizal “KABATAANG ANG PAG-ASA NG BAYAN, KUNG GAGABAYAN NG TAMA SA KASALUKUYAN”

RIZAL IN THE EYE OF AN ICONOCLAST

RIZAL IN THE EYE OF AN ICONOCLAST (Unfinished / on process) By: Paul Cuaresma Basea I am not an iconoclast. I do not know how to write as an iconoclast. I don’t know how to become an iconoclast. I don’t like iconoclasm, it just make things more complicated. But I really hate lies. So, I will do whatever it takes to unfold this lies. I am pro-Andres Bonifacio, I love him, and I really do. But it doesn't mean I didn't love Jose Rizal. I love him too, it’s just that I love Papa-Boni so much. And please don’t expect too much! I am just a student who search a way to upgrade the beliefs of Indios! Iconoclasm - the doctrine, practice, or attitude of an iconoclast. (Merriam-Webster) Iconoclast - a person who criticizes or opposes beliefs and practices that are widely accepted. (Merriam-Webster) In the lens of an iconoclast, let us disturb Dr. Jose Rizal’s well-built foundations. Let us disturb the settled “legends of Rizal” or the Rizal’s in Filipinos heart.
